Qt’s bright future on Ubuntu
Rick Spencer will disucss the exciting partnership in place today between Qt and Ubuntu. He will specifically focus on some of the areas where Canonical and Ubuntu use Qt and Qt Quick in important applications today. He’ll show how well Ubuntu runs Qt apps, as well as how Ubuntu make the perfect development platform for Qt and QML developers. Rick will show how the Ubuntu Software Center makes a great showcase for your paid or free apps for attracting users. Rick will end on why he sees a bright future for Qt Quick on Ubuntu.
Rick Spencer is employed by Canonical, Inc. as the Director of Engineering for Ubuntu, one of the worlds most popular Linux Distributions on the Desktop and the Server. As Director, Rick is responsible for all the teams that create the Desktop and Server editions of Ubuntu. A programmer since childhood, Rick has a Master’s Degree in Human Factors Engineering that included a specialization in the Psychology of Programming. Rick has applied this knowledge in diverse places such as managing a usability team for Microsoft’s Visual Studio and other platforms within Microsoft. Some years back, a passion for Open Source software caused Rick to leave the proprietary software world to focus solely on Open Source projects. Since then, Rick has worked on diverse projects, though mostly related to Ubuntu. In his free time, Rick creates applications for Ubuntu as well projects to make application development easy and fun for new comers to Ubuntu application development.
