Practicalities

Every event has some organizational stuff around it. Here’s ours.

Sign-up

After requesting your invitation here [qt.nokia.com] we will look through your application. If you meet our Criteria you will receive an invitation that holds a personalized link to a sign-up form. It will have some fields to fill in and some questions to answer, the usual stuff.

Travel and Accommodation

We have blocked an sufficient amount of rooms at the ParkInn Alexanderplatz. [parkinn.com] It is an important part of the event that we’re all in the same hotel.

Please don’t run off and book just now but wait for more information on how to reserve your room. It will make things much easier for everybody.

You (or your employer) need to arrange and pay your travel to Berlin yourself. The same applies for your accommodation.

Parking

The hotel does not have its own parking lot. You can however use the parking garage right in front of the main entrance on Alexanderstraße. Make sure to get your parking ticket stamped at the reception for a discounted price of 5,— EUR/day.

Public Transport

Tegel Airport (TXL)

The easiest way from Tegel Airport (TXL) to Alexanderplatz is Bus TXL. It runs about every 5 to 7 minutes until 18:00, every 10 minutes until 23:00. The last trip departs at 00:08. You need a single ticket “AB” at a cost of 2,30 Euro. Get it at the ticket machine or buy it from the bus driver.

Schönefeld Airport (SXF)

Schoenefeld Airport (SXF) is connected via S-Bahn and regional trains (commuter trains):

  • Regional train RB 14 to destination “Nauen”
    direct connection to Alexanderplatz
runs every 30 minutes, at minute 19 and 49
  • S-Bahn S9 to destination Pankow/Blankenburg
the train terminates at Schönefeld Airport, so you can’t take the wrong one :-)
change at station “Ostkreuz” to one of the west bound lines:
    S3 to Spandau
    S5 to Westkreuz
    S7 to Potsdam Hbf
    S75 to Spandau
    and leave at station Alexanderplatz
  • For both variants you need a single Ticket “ABC” at a cost of 3,00 Euro.

Train

  • Berlin Hauptbahnhof
Take one of the regional trains east bound (platform 11 and 12) or one of the eastbound commuter trains (S-Bahn) on platform 15. Each of them stops at station Alexanderplatz
  • Berlin Ostbahnhof
Take one of the regional trains west bound (platform 6 and 7) or one of the eastbound commuter trains (S-Bahn) on platforms 10 and 11. Each of them stops at station Alexanderplatz.
  • If your train ticket contains “Berlin+City” as destination, then it is valid for public transport too, otherwise you need single ticket “AB” (2,30 Euro)

More info at BVG online [bvg.de], including a journey planner.

All tickets bought at a ticket machine outside a bus must be validated!

Food

Breakfast will be included in your hotel room fee. We will take care of lunch and coffee breaks at the venue, and there will be soda. During the social event we will provide you with a dinner and drinks.

Schedule

We won’t have a fixed and pre-planned schedule. Instead, we will sort the sessions onto a grid on the fly. Take a look at the concept of an Unconference if you want to know more.

Social Event

There will be a dinner followed by a party on Thursday night. The Trollband will play for your enjoyment starting at 21:00. We will end the party at 23:00 so we all get our beauty sleep before we start at 9:00 the next morning. :P
