Symbian/Android - Wifi Remote Play

Wifi Remote Play is a simple Qt app I wrote for Symbian [edit: now for Android too], to allow controlling Media Player Classic [edit: and now also VLC] over a wifi connection: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.harman/comp_wifiremoteplay.html

I know – there are other remote control apps out there, but the ones I found for Symbian were either bluetooth only, or I didn’t quite like how they worked :)

Application is unsigned. [edit: now properly signed, on the Nokia Store]

I’ve only tested it on my Nokia 5800 (and this is my first released app), so I hope it works okay on other phones…

Wow it looks very kool. I would like to play around with this some time.
It would be so nice if you can put the link against some of your word, at the moment it looks unorganized, to put the link against any word just copy your link, and select/highlight the word you want to link and click “link” icon you will get small box paste your link there and you are done.

Boxee is a software solution used as a media center, you can buy a Boxee box or you can create your own using an old machine (or a new one) install the software and use various remote controls such as one which comes with a mac or one that I am currently working on for Symbian version but you have Android version [androinica.com] as well

I’ve fixed the links (not sure what happened there, could have sworn it was fine when I posted…)

Yes, it occurred to me that support for other media players might be useful, especially as Media Player Classic is Windows only. I’ll try to add this when I get a chance.

I’ve now got round to uploading it to the Nokia Store: http://store.ovi.com/content/247839

It’s certainly worth making use of the Nokia Store for anyone writing Qt software for Symbian – I’m now at 690,000 downloads since 25 January 2012! (I’m just kicking myself for not putting it on there sooner…)

I’ve also ported it to Android ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.wifiremoteplay ), making use of the unofficial Qt port for Android (Necessitas). (Interestingly, the downloads on Android, comparing the first week for each platform, are over 200 times smaller…)

And I’ve added support for VLC too.
