Language navigator bar on wiki pages

Page
1

I have started to translate some wiki articles to Hungarian (I know the babelfish competition has ended but it is for sake of the community :)) and I try to follow the the guidelines in the WikiHelp article:

If you translated a wiki page keep in mind that it has to be accessible from existing language versions.

And this is really a painful exercise on those pages which were already translated to several languages (like WikiHome). As the community grows and new and new languages will appear on the site it will become almost impossible to manage it. Did I just overlook a feature which solves this issue or this manual solution is the only one? If later, I would like to suggest to somehow automate this process (eg. let people register the translated page and prepare the language navigation bar automatically).

It’s good and obviously idea. You should create suggestion in bugtracker. :)

Wan’t that already adressed by some threads? And also that the translations should be attached to the main page instead of being own pages?

Sorry, I do not understand what you wrote. Can you please explain it?

What I have done is for example for the WikiHelp is that I have created a WikiHelp Hungarian page, categorized as Hungarian, and then I have added it to the navigation bar on all the other WikiHelp pages.

Hi,

thanks, so now people reading this posts can vote the suggestion.
One other think, you could add a link back to this thread to the suggestion, so the troll reading the suggestion can also follow this thread with heavily searching for it.
That would be great, thanks :-))

It makes perfect sense for this kind of things to be maintained as meta-content instead of true, in-page content (which does not scale and it’s simply painful to maintain). +1 for me.

As a translator of many pages to Spanish, this is very useful option for me, I vote for it.

Yes, this is a good feature, and is good if we decide the format of the navigator. Because some navigator language have a language of the page at the begin and other wiki have the current language in different position.

Regulating the names is a good idea, which we can say also required to solve the issue with the navigation bar.

The naming regulation was the start of the thread, and then there came many ideas in, lika a language dimension for a wiki page etc…
