Homescreen widgets for Symbian^3

Page

Is it possible to provide a home screen widget for an application written using Qt for Symbian^3 and beyond? The examples I have seen have been WRT applications. What about Qt?

It’s indeed interesting. I found a wrapper for the N97 homescreen [gitorious.org] (I can’t try it now, though), but nothing yet for Symbian^3. Maybe we could try something analog.

Also an interesting note here: http://goo.gl/Z5Euy
Note down the bottom that Qt widgets are mentioned for Symbian^4^

xsacha this http://goo.gl/Z5Euy [goo.gl] is no longer valid. Sym^4 was buried awhile ago (together with Orbit aka UIEmo).

So, has anyone got any idea of this? I’ve been looking for hours and found nothing about deploying applications as widgets. I’ve read something about handling the resize event fo you can detect if the application is small as if it were on the home screen. But nowhere there is anything to enable the application to be selectable to add as a widget of the homescreen.

All I found was WRT stuff. Not sure if it applies to S^3.

I think that we will see such support (or at least hear the official words from Nokia) after the official launch of Qt 4.7 for Symbian^3

I am using Qt Creator, based on Qt 4.7. Isn’t this official?

Qt 4.7 isn’t included on Symbian^3 (it still has Qt 4.6.3), you have a very early developer version [wiki.forum.nokia.com] available though, for Desktops and S60 3rd and 5th editions is available.

Well, I found something mentioning Home Screen APIs, but no direct link to any documentation on how to use them:

I remember there is a thread in Nokia Forum talking about this.

The answer is, in the new Qt SDK version such as 1.0 or 1.1, even 1.1.1, it’s not support HomeScreen Widget creation. But in the old version(i forget which one can), there is a “Push” plugin which can make this happen.

I will find the thread, there has the plugin and related APIs, then you can use it. But the Compatibility is unknow for new SDK.

I find the thread in the forum, but it’s in Chinese.

http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/在N8的桌面上制作Qt应用程序的Home_Screen_widget

There is a demo provided by the author, please try.

You can try to find hswidgetpublisher.lib first, if you mobile doesn’t have it, maybe we can not use the HomeScreen publishing API mentioned in the demo.
